Seve’s back had completely failed at this point, it’s had got steadily worse since the 90s and he could barely turn on the back swing. His swing was unrecognisable from him in his prime. It was an incredible feat of sheer talent and will that he was able to play in that Ryder Cup and bring the impact that he did. Tom Lehman said the first nine holes of this match was Seve. He witnessed the greatest exhibition of Golf he had ever seen.

From 100 yards in - there was no-one better. If I had to ask someone to hole a putt for me - Seve or Nick Faldo would be my choices (maybe Tiger) any day of the week. Unlike Hale Irwin at Lytham in 1979 Open, Lehman didn't buckle here in the face of Seve's artistry. He was probably the best American playing golf in 1995-96. Phenomenal stuff.

I take it that most of you lads commenting play golf? How often in a matchplay situation have we been in the fairway or on the green in regulation, thought you've won the hole and end up either drawing or losing it? It's no wonder the great man won 5 world match play titles, I just can't believe tiger doesn't have the same record in it, he's on a par with seve.

With how bloody and battered we were as Americans once Saturday was through, when Crenshaw said that, it reawakened the entire team and every US golf fan who had a pulse. You woke up on that Sunday knowing that you were going to witness something magical. And from the very first hole of the first match, it was like a runaway USA locomotive. The crowds were going ballistic as the US inched closer and closer, culminating in Justin Leonard's historic putt and controversial celebration prior to Olazabal putting out. In the 90's especially, the Ryder Cup was dead serious shit if you were a golfer/fan. The one time that the crowds could get slightly disorderly (within reason) and very very loud. Ive lost track of golf over the past 10 years or so and, frankly, know barely any of these new names, but I hope it is still a rowdy and very serious environment. Long live the 80's and 90's PGA era.

It’s the best event in golf it’s the only event up there with the 4 majors. Why cause we see guys who are major championship winners struggle to deal with the pressure 1991 Hale Irwin a man who won 3 US Opens he had a 2 up lead I think with 3 holes left over Bernhard Langer & Langer had a putt on 18 to retain the Ryder Cup.

@@patrickgray5633 Does it seem strange that the best golfers in the world such as: Tiger, Phil, Rory, Sergio, Padraig, and Speith never competed in the Olympics? All of these players had won Majors, but never got to capitalize on it with a Gold medal.

I love when people criticize the Shark for being a choker. Yeah, let's see all you guys take up the game at 16 without a country club daddy btw, shoot scratch golf by 18, turn pro right after that only after raising your own money from betting your game alone when you had nothing in your pockets and were making $28 a week. Then start traveling the world purely on belief in your game after your father forbade it and thought it was a waste of time. And the rest is history...Umm was it 92 worldwide wins? Yeah, Four ridiculously lucky shots by otherwise little known players on the LAST HOLE each time...That's what people remember. Not the continuous bombardment he unleashed on Sunday leaderboards. Anybody hear from Gamez or Mize lately? Didn't think so. Nothing against them, but I'm pretty sure if you asked them now, they'd trade those shots for one tenth of Shark's career. Greg was the finest player of his era. Pure hard work and dedication to the game. Also the first true athlete since Gary Player. He didn't win the most tournaments, but he never held back. People forget in the 89 Open, he was two under when he hit into that FAIRWAY bunker with a PERSIMMON driver over 300 yards from the tee. Peeps forget. I could go on, listing his business accolades and tons more, but my battery is low and I need to work out. And here I was, feeling uninspired today. Thanks haters.

I'm so sick of anything the Americans do the Europeans bitch about. The US ran on the green in 99, the Europeans were dancing on the green way back at the Belfry Sevie & all of them. Go past 99 when the US lost overseas Sergio ran down in the middle of a match during a hole between Davis Love III & Piere Fulke & nobody said a word from the European side. They carry on like nobodies business when they win. 1999 was the Ultimate crybaby reaction from the Europeans.
